Already knowing their position as the first team in Group A as tournament hosts, Germany awaited their section fate at Saturday's draw at the Elbphilharmonie. The watching eyes of the rest of the continent's best footballing nations also focused in to discover who they would meet at next summer's sporting celebration.
Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann will have been paying particularly close attention as his side was soon pitted against Hungary, the first nation to be drawn in the home team's section. Scotland were next to be drawn in Group A and when their position in the section was subsequently made known, EURO 2024 had it's opening game, which will take place in Munich on June 14. Switzerland then completed the Group A picture, meaning the three-time European champions Germany face a tough path en route to the knockouts.
Elsewhere, Spain, Croatia, holders Italy and Albania were all placed together in what looks another fascinating section: Group B. Group C pits Slovenia, Denmark, Serbia and England against one another while the Netherlands, France and Austria were placed side-by-side with the future winner of play-off A in Group D.
There will be one more play-off winner (play-off B) in with Belgium, Slovakia and Romania in Group E, while Group F is made up of the 2016 winners Portugal along with Türkiye, the Czech Republic and play-off winner C.
Next summer's finals will be played out over a month from 14 June to 14 July, with a total of 51 matches taking place.
